Safety

Curtain airbags

To help make sure everyone stays safe in the event of an accident, the FJ Cruiser comes with SRS side airbags on both front seats to help prevent torso injuries to the driver and passenger. Should a side collision occur, the SRS curtain shield airbag deploys almost instantly - to cover the area around the front and rear side windows, reducing the force of impact to the head area - helping to protect passengers in both the front and rear of the car. This system of six SRS airbags works together with the FJ Cruiser's seat belts to help keep everyone protected.

Reversing camera

To help you reverse more safely and avoid obstacles. FJ Cruiser is fitted with a convenient reversing camera. Vision from the reversing camera is cleverly integrated into the vehicle's anti-glare electro-chromatic mirror via a 2.4" LCD screen. This handy camera provides a live rear view that can help you reverse with greater confidence and be aware of any obstacles that may be in your way.

Hold your ground with Stability Control

Stay on track and in control with innovations like Vehicle Stability Control (VSC). This safety technology helps ensure your FJ Cruiser holds its path when cornering, a key feature for 4WD drivers. VSC monitors your steering angle and the direction in which your vehicle is actually travelling and senses when your front or rear wheels begin to slip. It automatically detects that you're not on your intended path and intervenes, helping ensure safer cornering by actively detecting and controlling any understeer or oversteer.

Traction Control

On wet, icy or even sandy road surfaces, the degree of traction between your tyres and the road is dramatically reduced. Traction Control improves your tyres grip on the road in poor driving conditions, especially when you're moving off from a standing start.

Brake System

FJ Cruiser includes a sophisticated braking system using innovation and technology to help maximise car safety. A hydraulic brake booster unit in the FJ Cruiser also facilitates several braking technologies - including Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), Traction Control (TRC), Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist (BA).

Engine Immobiliser

Car safety isn't just about air bags and crumple zones. It's important to protect your car from unwanted intruders. With the FJ Cruiser, you can help stop thieves in their tracks thanks to an engine immobiliser, which makes it virtually impossible for anyone to start your FJ Cruiser unless they have your key in the ignition.

Steering wheel controls

Inside the FJ Cruiser, you'll find convenience at your finger tips on the three-spoke steering wheel with built-in controls allowing you to adjust your car's audio and answer your Bluetooth™ compatible mobile phone - all without taking your hands off the wheel. Adjust the volume of your music, select a track on your CD, flick to a pre-set radio station, or switch between audio modes - it's all within easy reach.

Car audio

Listen to your favourite music with superb sound quality. The FJ's in car technology is quite impressive you'll find an eight-speaker audio system with a 4.3" LCD display, and six-disc CD player. The audio system also includes Bluetooth™ capability - and is amber-backlit to match the instrument panel illumination.

Parking sensors

The FJ Cruiser might be made for big open spaces - but parking in little ones is still a breeze using the two reverse parking sensors. The parking sensors detect objects at the back of the vehicle. The sensors use an audible warning to let you know the position and distance of objects relative to the back of your vehicle. This means that the closer you get to an object, the faster the audible warning will sound - allowing you to take the necessary precautions to park safely.

Ceiling speakers

Inside the FJ Cruiser, everyone gets to enjoy quality sound no matter where they are sitting. This is thanks to a pair of technologically advanced "exciter" speakers which are installed within the roof, and behind the front seats. These speakers complement the conventional door speakers, dispersing sound around the cabin for a supurb audio experience.

Multi-Information Display (MID)

The FJ Cruiser brings key off-roading instruments into view with a Multi-Information Display: just one of the technical advancements that has turned the FJ40 into the contemporary FJ Cruiser. The MID provides a compass and an inclinometer function to help you when driving off road, and is mounted high on the dashboard.

Design

Uniquely rugged design

With legendary off road abilities, the new FJ Cruiser has a uniquely rugged car design - with an iconic white roof, round headlamps integrated within the front grille, wrap-around rear windows and over fenders. This modern evolution of the classic FJ40 lines pays homage to the automotive legend of 4WD adventures.

Privacy glass

Keep your belongings securely hidden with privacy glass on the FJ Cruiser's rear side, quarter and back windows. The tinted glass adds to the sporty car design and also makes it difficult for anyone to view the interior of your vehicle - helping deter unwelcome attention, and protecting your luggage and equipment.

17-inch alloy wheels

The FJ Cruiser has a tough car design that reflects its no-nonsense attitude - with features such as large 17-inch alloy wheels, a unique front grille, over fenders, and round headlamps. While the overall look of the car is a tribute to its heritage, additions like alloy wheels give it a distinctly contemporary edge.

Car underbody protection

The underside of the FJ Cruiser is built with rugged conditions in mind - with three skid plates that help keep the radiator, power steering rack, engine and transfer case out of harm's way.

Water-repellent seats

Explore the toughest terrains without worrying about damaging your FJ Cruiser's interior - thanks to features like water-repellent seats. Water-repellent fabric has been used to cover the FJ Cruiser's seats, meaning you can easily wipe off dirt and water. A urethane film has also been incorporated under the fabric to prevent dampness.

Rear access doors

Getting in and out of the FJ Cruiser different to any other 4WD. Unique rear access doors can be opened when you open either of the front doors. This means no climbing over front seat passengers or awkward clambering to get into the car. Instead, your rear seat passengers can quickly and easily enter the car and get into their seats - ready for any adventure.

Performance

Rear Differential Lock

For the ultimate 4WD performance the ability to lock the FJ's rear differential makes for great handling on slippery or uneven ground.

Traction Control

V6 engine

For the ultimate in gusty off road 4WD performance, FJ Cruiser employs the same 4.0 litre 6-cylinder petrol engine as the Prado. Dual VVT-i technology ensures optimal timing of the intake and exhaust valves according to operating conditions, providing both power and efficiency.

Off Road Driving

Large wheel articulation

Serious off-road-driving will throw any number of obstacles your way and without sufficient ground clearance your 4WD could struggle to get you where you want to be. FJ Cruiser steps up to this challenge with large 265/70R17 tyres - which raise the vehicle height and contribute to the FJ Cruiser's impressive off road capabilities.

Dimensions

In terms of dimensions, the design of the FJ Cruiser reflects those of the original FJ40 - with a very similar wide, muscular stance. It has an overall length of 4,670mm, a width of 1,905mm, a height of 1,830mm and a ground clearance of 224mm. And thanks to these considerable ground clearance, approach, departure and break over angles, the FJ Cruiser is genuinely equipped for off-road-driving.

Part Time 4WD

For a better and more efficient on road performance FJ Cruiser has been designed with a part time 4x4 system. So, whenever you're not on tough terrain, the 4WD system can be easily deactivated.

Ground Clearance

FJ Cruiser really comes into its own on rough ground; conquering tough obstacles with its generous ground clearance. This is thanks to a combination of serious approach and departure angles, significant wheel articulation and 17-inch alloy wheels clad in large 265/70R17 tyres.

Approach Angle

Built to tackle the steep inclines that come with serious off-road-driving, FJ Cruiser has been designed with an impressive approach angle of 36 degrees to give you the confidence to climb more challenging obstacles with less chance of any damage.

Departure Angle

When it came to designing the FJ Cruiser, our engineers took a "go anywhere, do anything" approach - which is why they gave the vehicle such dramatic approach and departure angles. The departure angle is 31 degrees - which gives significant clearance at the back of the car when stepping down from or climbing a steep obstacle.

Water crossing performance

One of the highlights 4WDing, water crossing allows you to drive through water that might normally be too deep to continue your journey. Designed with great clearance and performance levels in mind FJ Cruiser has exceptional water crossing ability.
